Square CEO Jack Dorsey Says Bitcoin’s Lightning Is Coming to Cash App Crypto Heroes

Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey has revealed that the Bitcoin scaling solution, Lightning Network, might soon come to Square’s Cash App for mobile payment. However, Dorsey did not disclose when the LN will come to the Cash App.

Square will integrate LN

During an interview with podcaster Stephan Livera on Monday, February 11, Dorsey said it is only a matter of time before LN is integrated into the Square App, with the LN expected to boost transaction speed and efficiency for Bitcoin users on the platform. Dorsey added, “We don’t think it stops at buying and selling [Bitcoin]. We do want to help make it happen with fiat currency also.”

Earlier this month, Dorsey took part in a game called the Lightning Torch, where each participant adds a little Bitcoin to payment, then passes it onto someone they trust on Twitter. Livera invited Dorsey to appear as a guest on his podcast through that Twitter conversation.

Lightning Labs CEO Elizabeth Stark was also a guest on the episode where she explained that LN enables people to send money across the internet to any part of the world. “We’re doing to money what the internet did to information,” she added.

Lightning Tippin founder wants the extension to be adopted by Cash App

Sergio Abril, an independent LN fan, has developed a micropayments browser extension called Lightning Tippin, which was briefly mentioned on the podcast. The extension, which was launched in December, has garnered over 3,000 users. However, Abril said he would love it if the Lightning Tippin extension would be integrated into the Cash App platform. He believes that Square’s Cash App will play an essential role in the emerging lightning economy. “They [Square] have the power to bring Lightning to the masses and turn it mainstream, there is no doubt about it,” Abril added.
