Today, Ripple has joined forces with Tipping Point in a Charity drive to improve the welfare of Bay Area families. The company has announced a $1 million grant for this purpose. The money is going to people and families who are struggling to meet their basic needs.
Ripple is based on the San Francisco Bay Area. It is participating in numerous charitable causes worldwide. The money is raised and donated under its flagship giving an arm, Ripple for Good.
According to the official Ripple blog, a section of the announcement reads:
As a San Francisco-based company, Ripple and its employees care deeply about the community in which they live and work. So, we reached out to Tipping Point and asked, “What can we do to help?
Poverty in the Bay Area
According to Tipping Point, 1.3 million people in the Bay Area are struggling to meet their basic needs. Some of the residents are so poor that they need to work five minimum-wage jobs. Given that the region is home to big tech companies, there is a massive wealth gap. Tipping Point seeks to address this issue.
The wealth gap gave rise to a high cost of living. The presence of tech companies in the region drove the rent through the roof. Real estate is expensive, with a minority being able to afford a decent lifestyle.
Ripple Employees Take Part
Ripple has always encouraged giving from within the company. If an employee donates money via the Ripple for Good fund, it matches the donation dollar to dollar. For this charity drive, it will give two dollars for every dollar donated.
Tipping Point has been working on helping the Bay Area residents in the fight against poverty, since 2005. It has collected money that has been used to help 21,000 people. With Ripple’s help, it will be able to have a much more significant impact.
A Little About Tipping Point
Tipping Point is a non-profit company that uses effective methods to fight poverty. It works with smaller organizations in the Bay Area to improve the welfare of the local communities. It focuses on education, housing, looking for employment opportunities and childcare.
The Ripple Blog adds,
…Ripple is determined to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. We’re excited about our new partnership with Tipping Point and the opportunity to listen and learn and to work together to make our community more livable, affordable and equitable.
